About Us

The Heart and Stroke Research Campaign at NPIMR was launched in July 2009. Its main aims are to raise awareness and funds for our cardiovascular research in our Centre for Investigational Proteomics. Some of the key people at HSRC are listed below.

Professor Shervanthi Homer-Vanniasinkam

Professor S Homer-Vanniasinkam BSc MD FRCSEd FRCS

Director of Research and Development NPIMR

Professor Shervanthi Homer-Vanniasinkam is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at The General Infirmary in Leeds, Director of Research and Education at Northwick Park Institute for Medical Research, Honorary Chair of Surgery at UCL and Clinical Sub-Dean of Leeds Medical School. She joined NPIMR in 2008 with a wealth of experience in research and education, qualities which will further develop and strengthen NPIMR's vision and mission.

 

 

Professor Val Edwards-Jones

Professor in Medical Microbiology and Assistant Director of Research at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Professor Val Edwards-Jones is our leading expert and guides our proteomics research.

 

Dr Helen Ireland

Principal Research Fellow, Cardiovascular Genetics, Division of Medicine, UCL

Dr Ireland comes with a strong links from UCL with a background of research in an area of cardiovascular genetics looking at factors affecting different ethnic groups.

Dr Pranav Somaiya

 

Dr Pranav Somaiya - Lead Researcher

Pranav is a vascular surgeon with a specialist interest in microbial   proteomics. Pranav is the Developmental Lead for Proteomics at NPIMR. His knowledge and experience will drive forward our cardiovascular research.

Jayshree Shah

  Jayshree Shah  - Fundraising Manager 

 Jayshree (Jay) joined the Institute in January 2009. She came with a wealth of fundraising experience in the voluntary sector and a strong administrative and communication background from the medical sector having worked in the NHS since the 1980s.

Jay has set up the Heart and Stroke Research Campaign, established the Golden Heart Members Club and the Walk for Heart and Stroke, both of which will grow as part of the campaign.
